MADE YOU LOOK, The Photographers Gallery.

This exhibition explores mens masculinity with a mix of dandyism in the early 21st history. In this period of time black men were contributors to being the most influential trendsetters in fashion, music and global style culture. It is supposed to explore dandyism as radical personal politics, a willed glamour that counters the conventional constructions of the black masculine. Dandyism is not majorly about dressing sharp but rather problematising ideas of the male identity through dress or actions that are arresting, provocative, camp and being confident.

My first thought of this space was that it would not have any relation to my idea of utopia. But gradually the more I understood and took it in the idea of being confident about your sexuality, skin colour it made me think about how the society we live in once had history with racism and homosexuality. Back when these were major  issues to society, the world was a dark place. I do understand that racism and homophobic acts are still around but not as bad as they were back in its prime. Since then over the course of time these two areas have become more accepted. Everything works better when we all accept one another for who we are.
